We are looking for a name for our wine bar and we are pretty much down to 2. It will a wine "lounge" with a very long bar. The ambiance will be very similar to what you find in a french bistrot.

What do you think about the names:

- Le Zinc
- Le cafe bar

We want to find a catchy name, that describes what we want to do. We like both. Our issue with "Le Zinc" is that people might think of the pharmaceutical name, associate it with "Zicam", do you think that would be the case?
Our issue with "Le cafe bar" is that it is a little bit long, not that easy to remember and not as easy to say as "Let's meet at Le Zinc".

Thanks.

I really don't like either....if you want me to be honest. What does Zinc mean in French anyway?

I agree,

The Cafe Bar scratch and

Le Zinc will sound like The Vitamin to many not in the know, but there is a Bistro Zinc in Chicago and a Zinc Wine bar and bistro in Albuquerque and there was a Zinc Bar in NYC and there is Le Zinc already in SF so make sure you search your name and choose one at least not already in use in your state:

The Bistro

The Bistrot

Bistro 222 or whatever the address- at least they have the address and people know what it is by the name

Or how about adding some mirrors and funky chandeliers where they also indulge themselves in pastries, chocolates, gourmet appetizers, caviar, champagne, and flights of fine wine and call the place La Narcisse

Wala- I believe zinc refers to the old style zinc bars in bistros popular in France

My friend and I are planning to open a wine bar in NYC and were approached by a wine bar consultant. He want to charge us $2500 for concept design, beverage program development (creating a wine list) and staff training. This will be done in 5 working days. Are we in for a bargain or that is ripoff. Assume he will work 35-40 hours in those 5 days. And we is the going market rate anyway for consultant?

Is your address three or four numbers?

Use the name "Bin" and the address. For example Bin 119 or Bin 2109.

Once again it all depends. Quantity (long or short term) and quality come to mind. A good one in a top city like NYC will typically charge $50-80, maybe as high as $100/hr depending on what is involved and if a long term contract or not. Top bartenders in top places can make $40-50+/hr so that quote isn't all that bad in my opinion.Sounds like alot more than 40 hrs of work and he is tackling some important areas that require some expertise and experience.

Depends on his experience. What is his background? Can he really do the things he is promising? Imo, you are asking alot of him and putting alot of control in his hands. Be sure you like the direction he is taking the project.

$2500 for a complete concept, layout/design, menu, staff training, etc. doesn't sounds terrible to me. But it worries me that you may not have a hand in these and why don't you have your own ideas on what the concept/space should be like?

Im on the fence with this one. You can also hire a experienced bartenders and appoint a manager to whom you could delegate some of these responsibilities to.

As for the name... I dont care for le zinc or le cafe. You say you are opening a wine bar. Le cafe sounds like a cafe/restaurant to me.

How about Le Nuit, Le Noir, Sip, Swirl... Also like the bin and cellar with address # reccomendations

"corky's"....."winers"...."yeast infection"...well maybe not...
It all depends on how "stuffed shirt" you want to be

Candeo,

I translated the words, "The Wine Bar" and came up with "Le Salon De Vin".

Just my two cents.
