I am new to the Forums. I have done a lot of reading about opening a nightspot/bar and I have decided to work my way into the biz by promoting events and hosting my own. I think getting a name out there and then opening something would be my way into the industry.
To begin, I wanted to hold a low cost event. The idea is a Hip-Hop BBQ. It will host 2 DJ's and I think 3 local talents. The pay for the performers will be 10% of door after cost. Everyone is well aware of this.
I have a choice of a few locations. One is in the center of town where all the other bars and clubs are. As well another location is 5-6 blocks away on the outskirts. The problem here is the better location cost let's say 350-600 (loc a). The one on the outskirts cost 75 (loc b).
Loc A will have the ability to serve alcohol but I do not get a cut.
Loc B I have to try and acquire a event alch license.
The event is to be held during the day. loc A is not in a prime spot for day foot traffice so is it worth the additional money. I know location is key but I also don't know the turn out to expect for a saturday afternoon.
I want to keep this event low budget as I have about $1000 to work with. I wanted to invest $400 into the venue $200 into food and then the rest go toward advertising (radio) and me doing a lot with Facebook myspace and twitter over a 3 week period. Please let me know any and all advice to get the most return on the money I invest. As well please let me know if you need me to give more information. Thank you.
