Size is a plus?!?!?!?!? In the 13 years I have been working nightclub security I discovered early on that size is irrelevant, being able to talk to people is the MOST important skill needed. Some of my best security employees have been rather short and not at all intimidating, in fact, I hire women on a regular basis because they are not intimidating. Nightclub security is 80% communication 8% intimidation, 2% confrontation. If you hire based on size your looking for lawsuits. My opinion, good luck.

I'm 6'0" 260 lbs. I would say on average I get about 5 times challenges to fight than the skinny personable guy I work with. Security geek speaks the truth.

Please read my post again. There is a misunderstanding here.
I said size is a plus. Size is not always a factor. I am a man of small stature myself and consider myself a negotiator/jedi mind trick type guy. However, size is not a bad quality to have when clearing out a room of multiple combatants. Also it works as a good deterent (spelling?) for many people who are intimidated by size. I never said I am only looking for size, but if I can get a guy
who is nice and smart and can bravely deal with aggressive
drunks as well as being big it is a plus. Keep in mind this is an Asian club and we deal with fights that sometimes involve more than two combatants. From my experiences a big body is helpful in pushing out large groups of fighters. And for many people size
makes them think twice before acting up. I don't care how capable you are, sometimes a small guy just isn't enough to block the door from a bunch of guys wanting to come in and fight some more. A small guy is great for moving through a crowd and getting to the heated area fast, but a large guy has many advantages as well.

Security Geek,

I won't try to disrespect you like you did to me. But until you deal
with a Vietnamese/Chinese crowd in Los Angeles or California,
you might not understand how important it is to have all your
bases covered. I run a crew in Orange County near Little Saigon
which has the biggest Vietnamese population outside of Vietnam. California also has one of the biggest gang problems in the nation. Vietnamese and Chinese gangs in California are some
of the most ruthless and are no joke. I wouldn't be around and our club wouldn't be one of the safest Asian clubs if I didn't know
the advantages of negotiating and the powers of persuasion, confict resolution, and the finer details of gang dynamics. We not only deal with fights but fights that can erupt into melees. And we have to worry about guns being involved in retaliation as well as dealing with members being brought in for backup who were not involved in the initial fight. If I can get an all around security agent who has the added bonus of being large I will take it. Size is not everything but it doesn't hurt either. A big guy can at least see over a crowd and you can see him, if he is being attacked. I would love to have the luxury of hiring people who are just party hosts, but when dealing with people's lives I can't afford to take any chances.

dont most guys have size when compared to a crowd of asians?

no disrespect and i am not stereotyping. i mean as a whole, asians are small people. i have worked clubs in the states that the entire X ring was run by asian gangmembers. all very small guys ( 5'2 to maybe 5'6 and all dressed like 50 Cent) and maybe thats why they are so quick to pull knives and guns.

i worked security long enough to know the benefits of size. i am average size myself. and like i said, no disrespect...

just makin an observation.

and i think that you are gonna have a pretty hard time finding solid guys that will risk their ass with some punk gangmembers for 10 bucks an hour.

if you find a few that have the total package, take care of them. maybe a gratuity at the end of every shift. if they bring size, skill, and an ability to squash BS, the first time somebody pulls a gun or cracks 'em with a bottle... that 10 spot aint gonna mean jack. except maybe gas money to drive away from your club for good.

from experience my man....

best of luck in your search.

UnSung,

I am sorry if you think I showed anydisrespect toward you. That was not intended. I am just sick of seeing new club owners hire the biggest meanest people they can find and calling it good. That way leads to the darkside. :) And also leads to lawsuits and club closings. I do apologize if my post seemed disrespectful to you.

as fars as 80% comm.. etc etc.. that was supposed to be 90% 8% and 2% I am a dumb ass. :) have a good day all.
