Hi guys! I'm new to the forums, so bear with my naivete.

I have to say, this forum is a Godsend. I've been wanting to open up my own Bar/Pool Hall for a while, but didn't know where to start. I can ask just about anyone and they'd have some sort of response, but I'd rather ask people with experience -- even if they're still beginners.

One of my biggest priorities now is getting discount pool tables and buying a property that's fairly inexpensive. In short, I hope to gain some sound advice and learn lots from everyone here. Take care! :)

Thank God for Craigslist. Here are some pool tables that might be of interest to you.
I have always felt that it was better to buy "quality used" equipment, rather than "cheaper" new stuff.

Also, you may find some tables available by looking at "asset sales" through a business opportunity broker.

If I can be of any further help to you, please let me know.

My advice, avoid a pool hall.

Why?

Because it requires a ton of space (high rent) with little return. Plus it draws a trashy lower demographic crowd. So you'll be chucking out $10k a month in rent while your core customers are demanding $2 domestics. You won't be able to pay the rent. Every pool hall owner I know is hustling "Product" through the place and using it as a 'front'. Not to mention all the dealers that sell from pool halls. AVOID AVOID AVOID! you have been warned.

I steer far clear of businesses or opportunities like these that are hard to police and even harder to sell in the end.

I'm slightly offended by the previous comment. I've been attending pool halls for nearly a decade now. Most of my friends compete and place in Vegas tournaments as well. While it can draw a trashy crowd, that's usually dependent on where you purchase the property. Leagues are a great way to draw people of all demographics and you don't need to offer $2 domestics if you have serious pool players. They're there to have fun. It's about the competition. Dart boards are also a great idea. Not all people enjoy pool but they'd still like to hangout with people that do.

i have to agree with barboy. i love to shoot pool, but we have 2 coin-op tables, and ill give you 3 guesses where 90% of altercations begin. If you're set on it, i would suggest maybe buying some tables, or contact your local coin-op rental person. Our jukebox, pool tables, and touch screens are owned by one man, the benefit is that upkeep is free, the downside is that its a 50/50. but we live with that because we make our money on liquor, predominantly. but with two touchscreens, two tables, one jukebox, we average $400-$500 a week.

Hmm, well I owned a Pool hall, so I speak from experience. I could care less if you are offended, it is the truth.

Oh, and serious pool players SPEND NO MONEY. Because they do not want to get sloshed and lose their games! Do the math.
