I am looking for some help. I have an opportunity to get some free trips to give away for spring break. This is the first time we have had a prize this big. I was wounder if anyone could help me with some ideas on how to max this opportunity and what is the best was to give the prize away. Any experience or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

Colin:

Can you share a little more info with us?

Tell us the format and music genre of your club.

The more info the better.

What type of a promo's are you looking for?
Who's the trip offer through? Make sure that you have all of your bases covered and that you understand all of the "fine print".

It is a University campus dance bar. We usually play hip hop and top 40 music. We are getting the trips through a travel agency. I have to submit a proposal to them showing the benifits to them of which there are plenty. My problem is i am not sure how to qualify people for the prize i don't want to just hand out ballets randomly. I was considering bring a liquor company in on it. But i want to make sure we get something for it. This is still in the early stages so i want to get it right. I am also not sure what problems or small print to look out for. If any one can help i would appreciate it. I hope this is a little more specific thanks for the help!

Hey Colin

Ran a couple of trip give away promo’s in fact we’re running one right now called
“Party to Paradise”. First we partner up with a travel agent, which you already did.

Promo runs for 4 weeks, Fridays and Saturdays ending on February 15th.

We advertise on a local radio station, have one of their jocks appear on the first night.

Everyone entering the club gets 1 entry. Our DJ pulls one “finalist” out of the hat every
hour starting at 10pm. The finalist must attend the final drawing on February 15th. We
went to our beer and liquor reps with the outline for the promo. They are alot more
receptive if they know your spending the major money on a promo. We feature one
liquor and one beer every night. In order for us to feature their product they must provide
a minor prize for all finalists.

We also run 1 contest a night with the winner recieving an entry into the final drawing.
Every weekend is a different spring break theme (Cancun, Jamica, Cruise, Florida etc.)

Good luck
Thomas

PS. Anyone ever use “Vacation International” that’s adveritised in Bar & Nightclub mag?
The good, the bad the ugly.

I did a promotion which was a padlock to a suitcase. Each week we added a extra prize.

The way it would be run would be the holiday would be in the suitcase. Every hour that your are open you let a customer draw a raffel ticket, with a 3 diget code. This must be entered on the pad lock, if it opens it, you win whats in the suitcase, if it doesn't the ticket gets thrown away.

Each week you get a company to sponsor a item, and add it, so the second week, you might add a case of beer from budwiser, so they would win the beer and the holiday, the third week something else.

The longer the promotion goes on for the more chance people have of winning, as there is less raffle tickets and there for less conbinations to try.

If your open 5 nights a week, and 5 hours per night and you draw every night, then the promotion could last up to 39 weeks.

In a big Place in the bar, you have a board with the prizes and sponsors, and the DJ plugs the sponsors, and any new paper adverts have what prizes have been given by which sponsors.

The prizes don't have to tie in with the holiday, but how good after say 8 weeks would it look promoting:

EVERY NIGHT ALL THIS COULD BE WON!
By some Lucky Person....
Holiday to Jamaca - Johns Travel company
A case of Bud - By Budwiser
$50 clothes vouchers - Express Clothes
Sunglasses - Vision
Bottle Vodka - Sminoff
$100 holiday money - bank of usa
$70 shoes vouchers - The big boot company
Bottle Champage - Our bar

You sell the promotion to the potential sponsors as the bigger the prize the more notice which will be taken, the quicker they do it the more advertiseing its going to get.

Any Coments?

Also if you have big prizes which can be won every night, it will help increase trade for more than just the one night.

This idea that I think has been mentioned before but one worth mentioning again. There is a crowd that puts on a 2000-2500 person event that occurs about 6 times a year. It's a slick operation in a waterside club spanning 3 levels and 4 rooms; a novelty because it is away from traditional clubbing areas.

Anyway, the last time I attended, the promoter gave a friend and I a one-off CD named after the event. I love it. It was mixed by the last DJ of the night and accompanied by a promotional flyer.

Costly, I agree but a very nice touch! ... A little thing that brings me joy whenever I listen to it. A really great gesture, I thought. I will be back for their next production, for sure!
