I want to be able to enjoy it whilst I'm young and retire early, living a Playboy lifestyle!!!!!!!!!!
Whilst I don't own a bar i have had time to observe those that have done so successfully. They are *not* young, have *no* intention of retiring and DEFINITELY do not lead a playboy lifestyle because they are too busy managing their business.

And they worry alot.

You're a very young guy and most likely don't have the experience to own/operate at this particulat point - nor do you have the money unless you are inherently wealthy. In either case, I suggest taking the road to this idea practically. Start working in the business, in many various positions in order to learn the trade first hand. Start building your credit NOW - I don't suggest credit cards because they're too tempting to use at this age unless you use ONLY 1 to pay for bills in a timely fashion. This way you can begin tracking your personal expenses, BUT only if you pay the credit card bill before the due date.

Don't rush into anything, knowledge is best learned first hand and by mistakes where you can be taught.

Thanks people, was nice to get a reply! :D

I agree with getting experience in the industry, that is what I am doing now.

I know running ANY business won't let you lead a playboy lifestyle because you are constantly doing things...but eventually you should be able to if you can afford a manager for your bar.

One question no one replied to....

a bar in Greece or the UK and why?

Khalid,

answering that question is a matter of preference, money, property, timing, and language. Again, that should be the last thing on your mind except for wishful thinking. From there, your ideas and experience will grow whether you're in Greece or UK.

So, each person would have their own circumstances and reasonings...

Yeah, the overall advice you will get here is t get more experience before thinking about opening a club.

As far as Greece versus UK:

Staring a new business in a country where you don't know the language, the laws, the financial system, the local customs, etc strikes me as just pplain dumb.

Yes, costs are high in the UK, but it's certainly possible to run a successful club there. In addition to getting plenty of hands-on experience, I suggest taking (while you are at school) some courses in business planing and finance. It will be a tremendous help when you're ready to raise capital.

I agree with the advice that you are all giving me and I appreciate it.

I am currently working as a door steward, have been a barman and restuarant supervisor, and am perhaps going to design a website for a bar similar to what I wish mine to be in exchange for information on how the owner started the bar etc.

With regards to opening a bar in Greece, I have a close friend who would help me there so the obstacles of the law etc would not be such a big problem. I was probably just letting my mind run wild thinking about have my bar on a sandy beach under the sun and partying all night long...the UK it is then lol!
