I've read a lot of posts on this site so as to avoid the torrents of abuse that some 'newbies' get. However I am confident in saying, my query has not been answered on the site.
I am running a student bar in a British college, where I am too a student. I'm afraid that the governmet has passed legislation to get rid of all college's alcohol licences. There have been court battles and such to find loopholes in the system but no solution has been broadcast. So I ask you with the upmost faith because this could mean the end of the bar, is there any way around this? Is there a supper licence perhaps, can I serve meals so that I can serve alcohol? Could I set up an electronic slate system so that money wouldn't have to change hands, is that viable? My main problem is that I would not know which authority to ask about this and as a desperate cry I searched for a site like this and I hope I've come to the right place.
As a last resort my bar will have to attract students with non-alcohol orientated events, I have a satnd up comedy night and a chillout night on the cards as well as an inflatables weekend but I have few other ideas and without alcohol we will struggle to break even. Does anyone hold events that maybe do not need alcohol? or have any ideas on how to make profit without alcohol as the main profiteering device? I gladly awiat any responses, thankyou
