View Full Version : I'm young, but it's something I really want to do
Right, me and two friends are only 15/16 but really want to open a night club in Miami. We are in our last year at school and wish to continue into 6th form (2 extra years) after that we are planning on moving to Miami and opening a bar/nightclub. I really need some help on looking for advise and support - mainly on ways to raise some quick money over the next 2 and a half years.
Any advice would be great...We are still at a very early stage but we all really want this to happen. Thanks,
Dan
PS. We all currently live in the UK

to even get a license to sell liqour you have to have a us citizenship so that'll probably take a few years to get. and to make enough money in two years you could consider either prostituting yourselves or selling crack.

I hope your trying to be funny here, ddechter... this is a teenager asking questions from "supposed" adults which may or may not have a direct influence on the next few years of his life.
Listen up, Dan. Your post sounds serious and it seems that you're focused, but in all reality you're not going to open a club in Miami in the next two years unless you're a multi-millionaire and it sounds as if you're not.
Reality check: The nightclub business is a vicious business so if you truly want to open a club you've got to learn to ropes. Get your hands dirty by working in some local clubs... you need to establish an understanding of the operations aspects of the business and to do so you've got to start at the very bottom and work your way up. Do this for the next 2 years and then move to Miami if you've still got the heart and passion for this lifestyle.
During these two years you should have the ability to move your way up the ladder slightly or gain enough experience to land yourself a Miami gig. From there is where your education continues as long as you still have the drive to get EDUCATED by surrounding yourself with the RIGHT people; people thst can take you under their wing because they see your potential.
From that point on, its really about formulating a plan and making decisions that can further your passion.
There is NO quick money fix. You've got to work hard everyday and make solid decisions becaue those decisions WILL impact the rest of your life.
Well Done Event Guy, could not have said it better myself!!!
Hes 10000% right, to be brief, you must first get in the industry and see if you even like working in the business. Just b/c you go to bars or clubs and had an epiphany one day does not mean it is an easy career, lifestyle to lead or guarenteed meal ticket.
The one thing you have going for you is that you are very young. You should get in the business at any level, work your way up and try your hand at as many different positions as you can. Also try working at a few different venues to see what works in some places and what doesnt, what benefits one of your bosses may have had and others didnt. Just be a sponge and soak in as much information and knowledge as you can. Also might be a good job to look into that thing called college...? If hospitality and nightlife is what you are truly interested in try taking courses related to business, finance, economics, hotel/restaurant mgmt, etc...
