I dont have a club yet but I am planning on getting one within the next year so I am researching and learning as much as possible about clubs. I like the idea of having special partys like foam parties or beach nights things like that. Can you guys give me more ideas on what else can be done?

you may want to rethink being a club owner.

Your really open minded! Good luck with the bar!

I think the point being made is if you don't have time to research being a club owner then you certainly don't have time to run a club. Most club owners that I know work on average 160 hours a week their first year. No vacations, no time off for the family, no life at all. You live, eat, drink, and breath the club. Thats it. Period. So unless you have the werewithal to support yourself for the first 3 or 4 years that the club is open you'll never make it. As far as advice, it has been said here a thousand times: Get a job in a club, do everything from bar backing to managing, front door to cleaning toilets. It is a great lifestyle for the right people, but not everyone is cut out for it. I have seen more people try and fail than succeed. And the ones that succeed are the ones that spend days at a time on research, from local laws to the best kind of cooler to what type of flooring is good for the bathrooms. I suggest you read Alans post "Buying a bar" from begining to end to see just some of the headaches involved with being a new club/bar owner. Then you might get the picture. As far as being assholes, the regulars on this board see the exact same question you posted at least 3 times a week. Good luck on your endeavor and if you do get up and running I hope you make a go of it.

I agree 100% with securitygeek. You should definitely work in a club from a to z before deciding to open your own. After a month you may decide this is not for me, but definitely do not think that you will not be scrubbing toilets or stocking beer after you open your own place because you become the owner, bartender, barback, cook, janitor, door guy, waitress, and whatever else entails keeping a club moving. Do not take any offense to the people on this forum, many are very successful in this field and know what they are talking about, but the research on clubs does take time and if you do not have it then it may not be the right time for you. I think you stated that you are 20, i am not sure where you are, but you have not even bartended (legally) yet. Take your time and do things right. Good luck. Everybody else, i don't think you are aholes! Keep the good advice coming!

I think this "special event", aka promo, will work for you: At the front door have a fish bowl. Ask customers to fill out a card with their guess as to how long your club will stay in biz. Maybe give them choices: 1 month, 6 weeks, 6 months. The winners will get a chance to be the first in the door when you auction off all your glass ware, sound/light equ etc.
What do you think of this promo, is it what you were thinking of?
In the mean time don't forget: "would you like fries with that?"

You guys are killing me... I have guys in my bar all the time TELLING me they are going to open a bar. I always look at them and tell them to do some more homework,
Anyway one big promo we are working on this year is our "666" promo being that that is a real date on the calender this year. It's on a Tuesday night so extra revenue will be great. Radio stations were actually faxed a invite to participate, and a few called and thought we were gong to pay them but we acytually got one for free due to it being our idea.
Anyway hope this sparks something for you, and go to Vegas, Go to some of the seminars, they are a bit pricey but the information you get from them is huge.

Tell it like it is... but let's play nice.
Imagine, take a step back for a minute... and rethink your questions, then fire away. I'm sure you'll get the answers you're looking for or at least be pointed into the direction where you need to go.

All right imagine, I wasn't going to even reply to this because frankly your ego has really turned me off, but I am a little hung over and bored so here we go:
I mentioned reading all the posts on this forum not to be a smart ass, but because there is a ton of knowledge on here! In almost all of these posts you mention how hard you work and all you have done in your 20 years, but you don’ t want to take a half day to take a look at all the free information that this forum provides? In your original post, you even mention that you are doing all the research and learning as much as possible, but yet you haven’t researched this forum? Seems a little contradictory to me, but if you want to cut corners in this business and if you think there isn’t an extreme amount of work involved then you may be really surprised how quickly 1.25 mil. can go when you have a failing business. I sincerely hope that you don’t fail, but rather get off your high horse for a second and take my advice. Do what you say and really research this business and there is no better place to start that this forum! Good luck and hopefully we can end this pissing match and move forward!

I wasnt saying I didnt have time to read everything. I asked the question to get an answer not to be told to read everything. A forum is for advice thats all i was looking for. If you guys would get of your high horses you would help people instead of thinking "my club made it so im god". You all started were im at so you know how it is. Think what you would do in my position when all you were looking for was advice.

Hey guys,
Let's stick to Q & A's that are relative to clubs/bars/rests. and helpful to those asking, responding, and reading.A shouting match serves no positive purpose here in my opinion- take it off the board and to pm and e-mails between you. I know everyone means well and are better than displaying a jr. high school mentality and can exchange info and opinions in a more respectful manner.
Am I the only one reading this who feels this way?
Peace,
Mike

I am curious about the T Dance and Mail box promo that Kansas City brought up. I've never heard of them before and would be interested to know more about them.

Hi KC,
you seems to have pretty good ideas. Would you be kind enough to elaborate a little more on the "dating game"?
Kansas City
02-11-2006, 11:32 AM
We have not actually done the dating Game but it is on the schedule. Here is how we plan to do it.
Start early in evening- on a Friday.
Run it for 8 weeks
Find a host that can get the crowd involved (drag queen, dj, local personality)
Devide our stage in half (like the old game show). One side is three bar stools for 3 guys to sit on, the other side is a stool for the hot girl to sit on. The host acts as the moderator to allow the girl to ask the guys questions. At the end of the questions she picks the guy (site un-seen). They get to stay and drink for free in the club. The questions and the host will make or break the show. If done correctly it can be a real hoot and should get a following.

As you can see, I put a stop to the BS that was transpiring. If the taunting continues, I have no other option then to start banning certain people from the site. I don't want to start doing that but, this is a Professional site and we do have rules against these types of comments and harassment.
Please accept our apology and continue to use the site to your benefit.
I have deleted the bantering posts.

Wow...
That's the first time I've seen it come that close to a real fist-fight.
The only thing I would like to toss in on this fiasco is that sometimes when you're reading type you don't quite get those little nuances you get when you're actually speaking with someone.
Voice patterns, tones, smiles, winks. ;) Things like that.
One shining example would be:
Hey mutherf***er! What are you doing!
That could mean you are about to get into a serious fight or it could be a greeting from an old friend you haven't seen in a while. I've been called a MF and SOB by a lot of people that really like me and don't want to punch me in the nose.
It's all in how you say it. Unfortunately, you don't get that "how you say it" in type.
Try and keep that in mind in the world of internet forums. You can't exactly hear it.

Could someone elaborate on how a foam party is set up, what type of crowd/revenue it generally brings, and how big a bitch the clean-up is? Thanks.
Jhelm

No offense to Dr. Bubbles, but I would highly recommend against it. Foam parties are very messy, risky (someone slips and gets hurt), and they come off as slightly.... less classy. I went to a foam party in Cancun when I was 18, and the first thing I saw were two people having sex right there in the pit! Luckily you couldn't actually see anything, due to the bubbles, but gross! I've never attended one again.
But some people like them. I would say if you are going for the wet Tshirt kind of crowd, go for it. And I'm not saying that to be rude. If a wet T-shirt event was successful at your place, then a foam party might be just what the doctor ordered. Good luck!

Foam parties are a GREAT way to bring in revenue! The only way a foam party gets to be 'dirty' is if the security doesn't do it's job! A foam party in Cancun, Mexico is about as bad as it gets!! Most college people are there for the 'hook-up', not for family night. As for the slips and falls, we've been doing foam parties for 10+ years and (knock on wood) never had one claim on our insurance!! We carry a $1,000,000 policy for all events. If you play smart, you don't have any issues like that!
I'd love to talk further with anyone interested in foam parties, we have the knowledge and experience to make any event top notch!!

There are a lot more things to think about besides promos. You want to think about something that you can specialize in that people will remember and bring people back. Then think of your promos. Here are a few I didnt see posted.
Nuts and Bolts. (V-day) Guys get nuts and girls get bolts. Find your match and win prize.
Stoplight Party- Everyone is involved. Green-single, yellow-not sure, red-single.
Pillow fight
Code Red- This was a huge success for us. Ladies night. Women wear red and get drink specials on all red drinks all night. we did $2 red headed sluts, $2 washington apples, $2 vodka cranberries, and $1 red jello shots.
Bikini Bullriding
You have any holiday to make money. Just the right ideas. Even if it isnt a national holiday. Little stuff like Bosses day.
90's night- if your a club, most of your clientele is college kids. Remember they are 90's kids. They grew up with "what is love" and other night at the roxbury tunes. :)
I hope I was a little help. Good luck and also remember other things before promotions.

Well here is one party that i did that was a huge success. I did a beach party but i went a step further with it. I requested help from local hot tub and spa vendors to donate two hot tubs for the night. We then hired some girls as well as captain promo girls to sit in the hot tubs all night and "tattoo" people from the hot tubs. Also we have dont the olive in the martini glass give away. That works great as well. You get goose, three olives, stoli, etc to spon. the even and provide all the glassware...for every martini sold they get the opportuity to use their olives and try to make it in the empty martini glass behind the bar if they do they win a great prize...ie car, $10,000, trip to the bahamas. You buy insurance on the event so the venu is not resp. for supplying the prize. What ever the prize is going to me have it showcased a month in advanced infront of the building, in the bar, somewhere visable to promote.

It's all about promoting your club to cater to special event. The most efficient way to do this is to reach the right people at the right time at the right region with the right information. You need to have a marketing system that will allow you to do this efficiently when reaching a large number of people. Text message marketing accomplish this easily and simplify the whole process for you better than other medium.
