Hello to you all!

I am new to the nightclub industry although I've been a patron of the scene for years. I'm searching for any ideas on the quickest, cheapest way to break into this industry, gain a reputation and a few extra dollars to boot! I have an idea to take a slow night at an already existing club and make it a theme night, but i would also like to find out about how to obtain sponsorship or alternate funding if a better opportunity presents itself. Just throwing whatever comes to mind out there. I would appreciate any tips or assistance in this endeavor.

Sincerely,
Rey

Rey,
I'm also new to the biz. One way to learn a lot is ask the guys on this site. I have asked a lot of questions and have got many very helpful tips and suggestions. There are a lot of good people on this site that know what they are talking about. Anyway I own a promotions company & could help you out on some things. I can give you some ideas, cheap ways to get advertising, sponsors, etc. If you are intested in this I would need your location( address. ) I would need to know who your comp is, what they are doing, what age group you're targeting, how you plan on being different, etc. I also need to know if your going to sell alcohol, what kind of sponsors you're looking for, how many you're thinking of getting. I can get you number of promo items with your name on them and a sponsors name that will pay for them. How many people are you expecting on opening night? How many peeps can your venue hold legally? How your plan on advertising your venue. I can research your market, comp, etc. I can get you sponsors, free advertising on the radio- I will need the names of radio stations that your target market listens to. I can get big name dj's, singers, to do a show at your venue, if any of this interests you, email me at tyler@propromoting.com

Rey:

There is no quick way to enter this business so to speak. If you are truly interested in becoming one of us, then start at the bottom and work your way up. I think that I speak for most of us when I say that we all started at the bottom.

If you are looking to make some quick cash by doing a theme night at a local club, you better be prepared to invest some of your own money. If you don't, the club assumes all of the risk and you risk nothing. Most clubs get approached by "real" promoters four or five times a week. The clubs are also going to ask you what you are planning on doing and how it will increase their business. You better have a good understanding of the profit margins that we have in place. The reputations that we are trying to protect or change. Most promoters that I have talked to won't share their plans with you. This only sours me more. If the promoter is afraid that I'm going to steal their idea, require me to sign a Nondisclosure Non-compete Agreement. I have no problem with doing that.

As for sponsorship, if you have a good promo, most of the liquor and beer people will help you out with koozies and etc.

If you do make the plunge and get into the business, it's all or nothing. It will take most of your time and all of your energy. It is one of the most fun and most rewarding business's out there. I think that the people in our town know the employees of the Clubs better then they do their own relatives.
