You're at the perfect age to start thinking about opening a restaurant/nightclub...

The absolute first thing you need to do is speak to your guidance counselor and tell him/her of your intentions and ask for them to review the courses your currently taking. Some of your electives might not coincide with business so you might want to consider taking the classes that do. In addition, this would be a great opportunity to speak to your counselor about what colleges might further your education in the hospitality industry.

You might also consider starting out in a restaurant bussing tables or waitressing if you already have that experience. At this point any position you take probably won't be very glamorous, BUT you'll be learning the business from the ground up and gaining very valuable experience you'll be utilizing on a daily basis as you grow in the industry.

In addition, take the opportunity to use this site a referrence tool. One of the most important aspects of the hospitality industry (or any industry) is to have the ability to educate yourself. This site has priceless information given from some of the most experienced and successful business people from around the world! So, use it to your advantage and take the time to RESEARCH your questions and ask more questions.

Again, the most important step for you right now is to focus your attention on education. Keep your dream alive by accomplishing small goals in order to reach your big goal (of one day owning your business). So plan ahead by taking the right classes in school and start getting some real world experience and one day you WILL be living your dream.

anything that has to do with hospitality really. If you think about all the different types of jobs that involve running a restaurant or bar, then you can easily find equivalencies. For instance, washing dishes, security, hostess, bar back, waitstaff, receptionist, food prep, etc.

Personally, I think you should consider learning graphic design and everything you can about how to navigate through the internet, how to promote on it, how to sell on it. The internet is the future so you should invest some time in learning the in&outs of it.

I also think you should consider getting a summer job in doing some on-site promotions/marketing with companies like Dunkin Donuts just so you can get a feel for what it's like dealing with the public - good and bad.

Event guy with the solid advice for the young fella... If he sticks to all the advice he will have a real hot place..

The only thing I will add is take some classes in marketing, advertiseing an communacation. (Think that's right getn tired haa ) those 3 will help you go far. An don't forget accounting. An a good job to do one summer is work for a radio station street team. It will give you a few tools on how to mass market through fliers etc. An also you will get a lil idea of how the radio stations work. Its a lot of work but you will have fun along the way..

Good luck
