I am interested in opening a small (less than 1500 max attendance) concert club. I have retail management experience and several connections for electrical, bartending, security services, etc. Will someone briefly (or as briefly as they can) give me a beginning step by step of what I should do to make this happen.

Think about the venues that have gone under due to the fact that they thought they were up to code, or they knew what their cap was until the marchall came and told them different. It happens A LOT, especially when i have seen venues shut down in front of me being on tour. Hope all is well, and good luck.

something the size you are talking is about the size of the Mandalay Bay House of Blues Las Vegas. Also, your in houston there are a few venues there that you would be going against and if your track record with Booking Agents or Management is not extensive they may take the package to the smaller venue even if they have to turn kids away, because of the other promoters track record, and will get the $$$$ they are looking for from Promoter A.

Thanks to those who replied to my beginning post. Maybe I overstimated the max cap. I do mean small. There are lots of other places to go in Houston and I understand that competition will be a big issue. Thanks to Haunting for the reply I was looking for. A business plan is the place to start. To Ministry thanks for correcting me in the size issue. Do you really think it will take ten years to be ready?? I have time. But I don't think I have enough left to start at the bottom again.

Not take this the wrong way...if you are not ready to start over then it might not be the venture for you. Nothing in this industry comes easy. Also, if its the plan you are refering to then it depends on how much time and effort you are willing to put into it. I mean i can't speak for everyone here, but if i had the funds sitting in a bank account i wouldn't just start taking the steps without the finished plan, not to mention there are always hurdles you will face a lot of times even when you think its all mapped out. So, put some hard thought to it because you dont want to throw your money into a pit, and then bury it ya know. hope all is well.

I've been doing what you're trying to do for the past eight years. It's a big task. I've spent the last year "systemizing" my operation and am getting ready to attempt to franchise. I am trying to build the exact package of information that you want. We have everything from budgets to liquor sales #s, internal liquor audit systems, sound, lights, and stage requirements, booking contacts, marketing systems, blah, blah, blah.

If you have specific questions, get in touch, I'll answer them. This will help me in putting together my franchise package. If you're already funded and ready to make a the big step, I'll franchise you for a meager price, maybe spend a month working with you to get started. and make you're life MUCH easier. -bobjr4005atyahoodotcom- Check out my club, you'll see I'm not BSing ya.
