I'm a young guy from NJ, and recently I've been giving serious thought to opening a club. As a teenager I see what clubs lack constantly and have been slowly compiling what a good club needs. I would like to know what is necessary to open a club, a good website would be great as well as advice from those who have already achieved that dream. I am currently taking business courses, and entertainment is something I have a growing passion for. I am completely willing to put in hard work and the effort necessary. I am not asking for a quick answer, I am just asking for a hand. I need to be guided in the right direction.

A lot of the info requires registration (fee) but there are a ton of free articles, and he used to even have a free business plan template.

I strongly suggest you read it and learn about the realities of this biz :)

Then go WORK in some clubs - big difference when you look from the inside out than outside in.

The more you work in some clubs, and closer you get to the GM, you will find that this business is like most. Its not that owners and managers do not see the problems, they just dont have time to address them.

Most owner/operators in all industries are so busy working IN thier businesses, they do not have time to work ON their business

my advice does not hold much weight currently sinse i do not yet own a bar or club, but if everything goes right I should have the keys to the one im looking into by July 1st... this is what I have done so far to find a place etc..

1. ive worked in 3 bars
2. i have several close friends that help run bars, I get info from them
3. think about what kind of specials do popular bars have?
4. talk to the owner of bars you goto, ask if they are interested in selling or leasing, do they know any other bars for sale or lease?
5. get a meeting with the Small Business Administration in your area, they are there to help small businesses
6. know what exactly you wanna do, do you want your customers to be younger crowd like college students, or older?
7. what makes your bar special?
8. what can you do to improve the bar scene in that location
9. once you find a location, how is the parking? how is the surrounding businesses, is the location dying, does it get foot traffic when the bar is open?
10. how do you plan on advertising your bar?
11. talk to someone who knows about the taxes

these are just some step ive already taken, and it has really speeded up the process...
