Believe it or not, glass is less costly, in the long run, then plastic. Plastic is also a huge trash problem. I have used both. I like glass better. You can grasp it in your hand without crushing it and it looks more professional. If I want to consume my beverage from a plastic cup, I'll attend a Frat Party.

The glassware manufactures like corning, Libby and etc. will have information that back up my previous statement.

The only time plastic cups made sense to me is when glassware
theft became a significant problem. We have very unforgiving
tile floors, but with tempered/reinforced rim glassware, breakage
is still cheaper on a nightly basis than the cost of plastic. I
haven't figured in the cost of detergent, sanitizer, equipment
depreciation, electricity, and labor for glass washing, but the
customer perception of value for glass certainly has some innate
benefit as well.

We had a particular night and crowd some months back that
were murder on our pint beer glasses - they just developed
legs and walked out the door. We switched to 16 oz. plastic cups
at a certain point in the evening and the problem was largely
eliminated. It was a kneejerk solution - if my head had been
screwed on right, I would gone into marketing mode and logoed
the pint glasses and sold them with a discounted refill price on
that night (with free washing and boxing before they left.)

And I, for one, hate those new plastic beer bottles, even more
than I hate cleaning broken glass and spillage out of beer
coolers.

I just have to comment. It seems that in every post you have some genius marketing or business scheme. Your business must do rather well with someone with such great ideas calling the shots. I hope you don't mind that if I ever get this bar started out here in Maine I'm going to be copying all your posts into my employee manual. :D
