I have seen this attempted in several different venues, and I want all of your opinions on the subject. It seems that there are definet drawbacks; liability if someone is injured, added security, increased aggression levels in the crowd and so on. On the upside it draws large crowds and everyone seems to enjoy the entertainment which is provided free by members of the audience. The usual setup is as follows. The club sets up a ring. As the night progresses members of the crowd who want to participate sign up and fill out waivers. The club provide gloves, head gear, and mouth piece. There are bouncers acting as referees. The winner of each match gets a free bar tab of a set amount. They also have a ring girl contest which the winner of gets a cash prize. This is always one of the highlights of the night. The girl fights are always very entertaining too. The major downside is that it seems a fight always breaks out due to the aftermath of one of the matches. What does everyone think of these types of events?

would you set it up like a toughman competition? 3 rounds each 1 minute long? sounds like a pretty sweet idea, but definetely a liability drawback. you might want to check out state laws. let us know how it goes.
thanks,

There have been clubs in my market that have done this. Only once though. It turns out to be a big brawl. My suggestion, don't do it. It only hurts your clubs reputation. Of all of the clubs in my market that have done this promo, they all wish that they hadn't. take a long look at this before you make your decission.
Another thing to consider. Your Doorman won't be able to handle the big fight that occurs in your parking lot at the end of the night.

Yes, the it usually goes 3 one minute rounds and then the crowd decideds the victor. There is one club I know of that has been doing this conseculativly every friday for about 4 or 5 months. I guess they draw in big crowds and this outways the downfalls. And yes, it usually does erupt into a street brawl outside the club. Usually security just kicks these guys out and lets the police take care of it when it goes into the street.
