Hey, I'm the Promotions Director for a border city nightclub,
About 2 years every thursday night was our American night and the place was packed every week, I was a doorman here at the time. Well the place closed down for about a year and opened up with a new format. The owners wanted customers they had 20 years ago and it worked. That was all well and fine but things don't last for ever in this business as everyone knows. So to keep the place busy they brought back our Wednesday night college night which is and has been packed every week since last September. But now they want me to get our American crowd back on Thursday nights which I think is a great idea, But I'm not really sure just how to do it. The crowed that we had is now able to drink in the states. So what I'm looking at is a hole new ball game. We have Started our Thursday nights called "LIQUID THURSDAY'S' We have a local American radio station doing live remotes from 10pm to 12pm also we have our beer reps in giving away a ton of free stuff like shirts, hats, concert tickets, and more at a low or no cost to us.
But still I'm finding that not many people are coming out. Don't get me wrong this bar is a legend it's been around for almost 26 years. Can anyone provide any tip or suggestions way's bring them in?
Thank's for reading.

It seems to me that you may be able to capitalize on the reality television show craze that is currently going on.

How about a dating or competition event that got the crowd involved? People are drawn to being in the spotlight and getting your customers involved and participating in your events should in most cases lead to some interesting results I would think.

You might get some ideas watching a couple of these shows and maybe combining some aspects of them.

jesse, you need to find out what the "americans" want and can't get in the states. you problem may not be all in promotions. you say that you opened under a new format after a year. does this mean that you remodeled the place or simply threw the doors open again ? yes the place has been there 26 years but it also means that your original customers are now 47 years old and are not coming out any more. another concern may be crossing the border itself. is it tough or a hassle ? if it is then they will simply stay where they are at. people want to be entertained where ever they go, so put on a good show and go the extra mile( that most clubs don't do) and stick with it. let's face it all promo's don't work and we have all had some duds just don't be afraid of pushing the envelope. there is no such thing as bad press.mike

I'm trying to think of all the reasons we used to drive 6 hours to go to Montreal from Boston to party. (now I always fly: 45mins :D)

18+ to drink, gorgeous women, stronger beer, gorgeous women, crazy nightclubs, gorgeous women, crazy bars, gorgeous women, happy hour, gorgeous women, cool club dance music not played in the the USA, real stripclubs with: gorgeous women that were....um.....friendly with each other, crazy drinks and drink specials like LONG ISLAND ICE TEA PITCHERS!....um....I don't know about other parts of the USA but you can't get Long Island Ice PITCHERS anywhere in Boston  .....

But I can totally imagine a huge headache coming home after a night of partying in Canada and then dealing with BOTH border patrols.....that's gotta be a turn off......no?
