Hi, I’m a video-graphics producer at a media production company in the UK. I’m currently doing some market research into video-graphics production for installation plasma screens/projectors, with the intention of offering our graphics services to bars and clubs. Specifically I would like to find out how large the market is, how the licensed trade sources and commissions content for their plasma screens, where they are sourcing it from, and what value they place on custom branded video graphics. I’d really appreciate your input, and hopefully one day I’ll be able to help you out in return.

1) Do you have plasma screens/projectors installed at your venue?

2) Do these display live TV or custom/branded video content?

3) Do you use a supplier to create this content, or produce it yourself?

4) Is this played from a video DVD or from a computer, e.g. a QuickTime/Windows Media file?

5) Approximately how often is this content updated?

6) Are custom video graphics something that would be of interest? If not, why is this?

7) How would you rate the importance of having video graphics loops within your venue, as opposed to pre-event flyers and other PR activities?

8) Do you receive much marketing from other companies/individuals offering similar services?

9) What budget would you consider adequate to allocate for the production of a 5-minute custom graphics loop (bear in mind this would require approximately 2-3 days to produce).

10) How much would you consider reasonable to budget each month to keep the graphics current?

11) Do beverage companies put up money for marketing within your venue, and would this extend to plasma screen promotions?

Many thanks for your help everyone,

Tom @ STUN

Hi Tom,

I work in a lot of venues in the uk and this is what I have found on my travels, of course it might change from city to city but down in the south this is how it is:

1) Most venues will have a mixture of plasma, lcd, projectors and normal tv

2) Both, most venues display live tv via sky or some on freeview for skysports and news, newer and big chains are now starting to use schedule databases for music videos and custom adverts.

3) Most of the venues that display adverts the artwork is provided by the company who supply the system

4) Rackmount server out the back with live streaming from a central server

5) Depends on the venue but most big clubs at least every 3 days to a 7days

6) Still a new area of development, the clubs that do display are all ready in contract with firms and those who do not don’t tend to see the benefits/been put off from recent news of firms charging for adverts but no displaying the adverts :-(

7) Again depends on the venue set up if enough screens are around the bar then yes it gives customers something to watch but at the moment the old hands on approach seems to be the best way

8) A few but only 2 major companys I have seen in most of the venues down south

9) Not to sure on this one I am afraid

10) This again I cant answer

11) Depends on the promo when a budget is given that’s normally for flyers etc..

Of course people might have different experience but this is what i have found when i have done my research, any other questions just give me pm message will try my best to help you out good luck

Regards,
Sam
