There is no such thing as a classy hip-hop club. It might start out that way, but give it 6-8 months. Not classy anymore.

I was going to post the same thing a few days ago but I deleted my post. Classy and Hip Hop really don't go together. It always turns into a ghetto gangsta hangout after awhile. Hip Hop is not an inspiring, or positively energetic music. IMO, you would be better off using a mixture of dance music to create the atmosphere you are looking for.
I agree with the above. I'm assuming you could be possibly getting the idea from Jay-Z's 40/40 club in New York City but that is a rarity and even that blurs the lines...
You can always create an inviting and upscale environment, and play a mix of hip-hop along with other genres. Imo, if you had your upscale venue and just played hip-hop it would not be such a good idea. I think your demographics and management would play a key role and enforcing an uber strict dress code would be HUGE in keeping it "classy".
Best .02 i can give this late, sorry... Good luck...
ps: feel free to explain your vision, intentions, size of desired location, etc... You might get more precise feedback.

i have seen some classy hip-hop clubs in places such as chicago, new york, san diego, but they aren't "hip-hop". they play a mix of R&B, reggae and the hip-hop that they do play is not offensive in any way, meaning no rap, gangster anything. the hip-hop consists of black eyed peas, fergie, etc. some of these clubs don't even play that though. if you stick to the top 40 non explicit and to agree with the other posters, a STRICT dress code, you should be ok.

Hey bro, whatever you envisioned how that classy hip hop club to be is probably depends on what type of people you're trying to attract, for them to mingle, you'll see how it will turned out. to be continue.....

we have had this convo many many times on this forum over the years.
let me just vocalize....I TOTALLY DISAGREE....you CAN have "classy" and hip - hop together
The very fact some would say such things as "if you mix r&B" etc etc....(trust me when I tell you there is NO SUCH THING AS HIP HOP if you don't mix R&B and other genres of its "roots")...shows ignorance about the genre
again...Hip hop is like latin music...its a culture with subcultures....if you don't study or understand it..the crowd will define itself (usually to the lowest common denominator)
50 cent is not the end all be all of hip hop, any more than Ozzy Osborne is all there is to rock, or BB King is to Blues.
With that said....in the USA...the term is "UPSCALE" and there are plenty of Upscale Hip Hop clubs that don't get 'ghetto' or 'gangsta'
be proactive, and you can avoid a hip hop night with all the stereotypes
just hire some hip hop dj and add some drink specials...without knowing the culture..yah..thats gonna be trouble...but I would say that for any genre.
