New to the forum

Hey guys, this is pretty much the most exciting site I have found in over a year. My name is Brad and I am a senior at Cal St. Long Beach graduating with a finance degree and I am interning at Universal Music. I am under the assumption that the club industry is for me. I am driven to be social and an excellent host, I have a background in finance and I have been a real estate agent for 3 years, so a background in real estate as well. I have connections in television with my brother and sister working in that industry respectively. I think the idea of managing or owning a club would fit me perfectly and since I have thought of it, I have not been able to get it off my mind. It just so happens that at my internships this forum came up to post about a new artist(by the way if any of you can respond to the will downing post I would appreciate it). So that is my background.

The reason I post, besides wanting to meet you guys is to get some advice. I talked to someone who knows a few club managers/owners out here and she asked me why I wanted to get in the business. I didnt really knowwhat to say, I mean I think it would fit my personality and lifestyle perfectly, but do you think this is a good enough answer to this question? Also, what do you think is the best way of getting experience in managing a club? Do they have internships at these venues or is it strictly a who you know type business? Also, if there are any internships in the hollywood area I am very interested. And finally are there any other sites that are more engineered for young start ups like me or is this pretty much the best?

Welcome to the board. this is a great site with lots of very helpful members. as for your post I would recommend that you get out and pound the pavement.

You should be willing to work in any aspect of the business to get you feet wet. Shop yourself around to all the venues in the area you are looking at and be willing to start out at a lower level position to learn the ropes....
Look at every venue from the clubs to the dive bars to seek an opening then after yu have a little experiance use that to move on and up. this will alo give you a chance to see if you lifestyle is really a match to the work :) or just the party! :confused:
