So, we have this incredible concept that is really catching on and people are starting actually copy us now! We have a true creative force going on at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park NJ (yes, where Bruce got famous). We call it Cabaret Wednesdays and we feature 2 different bands in unplugged format, we have Wayfinder play at every show -they are our feature band. Then we have an artist display their work and fashion bring in fashions that appeal the the rock 'n roll crowd. We end the night with a true improv jam where the best of the best musicians get up on stage and create the most incredible music, on the spot, that you've ever heard. The atmosphere is incredible and it's like the days of the old stone pony. Next week we have our Surf & Sirens night where we have 2 female fronted bands (Dee Farace and Sharyn Seidel - both are incredible and draw VERY WELL and also Wayfinder which is fronted by Terry Little (she has a voice like Janis Joplin!)) a really rad surf board designer who turns surf boards into art, and a surf shop is displaying their surfwear. We allow the artists and designer to display everything for free - and the bands get paid only if they draw a crowd of 20 or more - they get paid on a sliding scale - for 20 to 40 people, they get $1 p/person at the door, 41 - 65 they get $2 p/p, and 65+ they get a bonus. People who show up for the open jam also get to see photos of theirselves on stage since i'm also a photographer and post all the pics on our website! Our soundguy sometimes records the jams off the soundboard so we'll hopefully get some samples up on the site as well! ;-D

It works out really well! You can drop by our website at http://rockchix.org and stop by our new message board for promo ideas (we're also hosting musicians round table discussions to help teach musicians how to promote their gigs and get people to show up at their shows!)

Hope it inspires you too! and if you're ever around the Asbury Park area, stop by the Pony for one of these incredibly creative nights! You'll be inspired for sure!

You think this caught on? lol

His description in the forum...

Ok.........For a Long time Now I have KNOWN That the art Form of Musicians Just Improving...and Creating Things New in todays Music Market Is A DEAD Thing!!!!!!!!

For the FIRST Time in Quite a while I had an Experience with the Rock Chicks (I should Just end the Sentence there) (But Seriously).........That Made me feel Like I was a Part of a Creative Force in Music. I felt like I was Part of a Community of Creative individuals That Are Tired Of the Stagnation And want to get Back To being Creative.........Improving.....Trying new things........ Experimenting...Taking Risks and Making some Mistakes......These are Just The Right Elements that Help Make CHANGE!!!!!!!!!!
Lateley I have been Noticing That Alot of Musicians (including Myself) are doing more Writing/ Producing on the Computer With Clicks And Drum Machines. I think A few of us are Waking Up and realizing......... That We Have Robbed Our Songs Of a NATURAL Groove. We write the songs Lay it down to a Click, Then We hand them To A drummer And Say Hear, Play this......
Whats Missing here Is The Combination Of Energy Between Artists. Where They Develope There Own Sway To the groove......I am Tired Of Hearing The Same Stagnant Grooves!!! I want to hear Music That Chemically Combines with ALL the Artists more.

MUSIC NEEDS A KICK IN THE ASS!!!!! Lets get Back To the Drawing Board.....

AND JUST F'n JAM!!! I had A GREAT TIME!!! I will Be Up for the Challenge Of "Free Style Jams" Anytime. Thanks To the Wonder Girl Who had the After Hour Party. That Was Also Great!!

PLEASE KEEP THE Improv Thang A Heavy Part Of the Format!!!

Jane

I checked out your Rock Chix site. It's cool. I'm also a musician and a photographer. So, it seems that we have a few things in common.

Thanks for posting and "Rock On".
