New on this forum and i been reading all the great info thats in here, thanks for all the great info guys...

Got couple of questions for you guys in the night club world..
I have $130 thousand dollars to invest, should i invest that money or try to get a loan to invest in the club and play with the banks money. Will $130 thousand be enough to open a club?
Also im not a US citizen so is there a way i could get a liquor license without been a citizen ? is there ways around to getting one? like for example having other investors in the business and having them get the license ??

BTW.. dont think Latin means Mexican Club, so no hats and boots, is more a salsa, merengue and bachata club, more on the tropical side, (colombians/puerto ricans/costa ricans/dominicans ect.)

thanks for any feedback

Banks won't give you any type of loan to open a nightclub/bar establishment. Depending if you are going to buy a previously built one or make something small then sure you could open something with 130 000$

I'm not sure about this 100% someone that's in the US will have to tell you. But if not mistaken you can have other investors that are American citizens apply for the liqour license.

Do you have a business plan made etc?

Re: the liquor license

Every state has its own rules and qualifications. Check with the appropriate state agency. I have always found them to be very helpful.

are you still a dj? Have you ever helped order anything for the bar outside of the music? Next time you dj look around the bar and ask your self how they got all that liquor, the cooler, the glasses, the toilet paper etc, see how much you know. Watch the bartenders, do you know what they are doing? Look around the stock room. Thinking about the clubs you have worked at think about the things they did (outside of musc) that you liked that you hated. Try to figure out why the bar did the things you didnt like, sometimes there are reasons bar owners do things that dont seem obvious until you put yourself in their shoes.

No, banks well my banks wont loan money on bars unless you can prove you dont need the money.

my friend I will give it to you like this... I have neva been one to be shy about giving it to someone str8 when it comes to this busines.. Maybe its because I live in CA, and have dealt with the worst crowd known to mankind ( HOLLYWOOD ) in this lovely business we call a night club.. So I may kinda be a lil bit more blunt with certian things.. And I by know means try to shatter your dreams of being an owner. I just try to give you what you are going to have to deal with. Before you put 10 to 15k into something an be like damn. I wish someone would have said something..

Being a DJ for 9 years really doesnt do you any good, except give you an idea of what kind of music to play that can hold a crowd... So to be honest with you, unless you came to the club and paid attention to the workings of the club and not just the ladies who came in, and the ones who wanted to take pic's with you. You are going to have your hands full... I tell everybody who wants to open there own club. Go work in one for 6 months to a year. Take what ever job they give you. Best thing, go to bartender school an become a bartender that will give you a better idea about what goes on. Dont be in such a hurry to open a place.

Like the questions " owneroper " asked those are very good questions. I mean you dont need to ask anyone here do we think you have enough exp. because you can answer that yourself.. I mean can walk into a club that is empty with no staff and know how to hire people " the right people " order bottles, run a POS system, work the lighting, know what to do if you have issue's. Fights, people trying to pass fake money, people useing drugs in the bathroom, my all time favorite, and I am guilty of this one, ( sex in the bathroom ) Would you know how to handle being under staffed because a bartender is to hung over to come to work. I can go on an on.. But if you cant answer any of those simple things off the bat then my friend you have alot of work to do.....

And as for banks an grants.. With the way the market is right now, the dollar aint worth a damn thing. So best believe there not going to give it to you on a pipe dream. You are going to have to find some private investors who like your idea. And then you may get the cash to open, but on paper you are not the full owner because now you have others tied into your project and you have to meet all kinds of demands profit wise. etc etc etc

Its alot to deal with, but at the end of the day yes it can be done.. it all comes down to how bad you want to be in the business... I would try out something very small that you can afford with you and some friends..

Hey Gustavo --------------- I can help you with a business plan if you like for your business which you may need to seek private investors and or angel investors for your nightclub. This is a HIGH RISK business model HOWEVER there are people out there willing to take the risk right along with you.. The key is finding them and when you do , you have to be prepared...

Cheers,

T
