Looking for away to reward key-employees, giftcards, house accounts, etc. What are the pros and cons?

Rewards or profit sharing are a good way to positively reinforce good work. However, be careful to make it fair as possible for everyone or you will have resentment from some workers towards the others and cause problems with the team overall.

What about a house account for food/bev or giftcard for set amount per month as a employee benefit. Does this create a liability issue etc?

I know that in my business, I have to report all gifts over $50 (no matter what they are) to my Accountant as income for that employee. It goes on their paystub and is taxed. I know it sucks but our Uncle needs the money.
