What are the basics? What am I responsible for providing and what is the promoter responsible for? Is it wise to allow a promoter to lock down an specific slot of days initially to prove his-self? I have a one individual who wants to make a deal to lock down a specific slot of days Thurs thur sat. and have sat as his specific day to throw his event. and the other days he will contract out to other promoters but he wants to have control of the days and promoters that throw events. He says that it will allow me not to have to deal with other promoters and go thru him, he will filter my rates to who ever wants to promote there. I just aquired this building and it currently has no sound system wired, no Liq. Lic. and Im only covering 1 Officer, so he has to get all the rest of that. And I want 500 a night and 20% and the door, and %15 of his self provided Bar. Do you think those are solid Numbers? Input ASAP. Thanks

shouldnt he prove himself before he locks down nites? I am confused, if you dont have liq lic,] or sound what is he promoting? Is he just renting your building?

The club is in walking distance from 4 local colleges, so thats who he's promoting to. I know my situations very unique right now, but by me not knowing what to expect I want to just get any input on good position to stand. Since my post I told the promoter exactly what I want and expect. and they're willing to do it so I've just gotta try it out and see how it goes?

Ok sounds like you own the building. What you need to do is set terms for a lease. You can get plenty of information here on that topic but will need an attorney to get a strong lease term put together that protects you. The scenario you describe is a suckers bet. If you do not have experience, licensing or the equipment then you do not have a club. You have a lease space. IF the promoter is going to secure a liquor license they will have to have a lease in their name, otherwise it will be in your name and the catering licensing that they most likely saying that they will use will not fly 4 nights a week every week without the city coming a knocking to see what is really going on. There is tons to talk about here but bottom line YOU need to keep everything above board. If the promoter wants to do all of this then work out a deal. Offer to lease the space and make yourself a partner in the deal if you think it will make money.

Well i have already partnered up with someone and we have come to terms on our partnership. But I basically want a promoter to come in and make a lil quick cash so I can funnel it all back into the club. I have drained a lot of money in to just acquiring the spot and getting it up to code. The current promo im working with is very gun ho on the opportunity to do this but he basically thinks he can be the promoter/manager, he wants to control the days and make the agreements with other promoters to go thru him to book the days and make sure that the club gets our set price for letting any promoter get it for the night. Its cut down on my leg work, but I eventually want to have a in house promo team working solely on behalf of my club. I spoke with an associate of mine who owns a popular spot and once he learned that I was competition he was, well as I'll kindly put it not very forth coming with information which was very understandable and expected but told me that I would have to run with it and see how it goes, with the promoter. a very trial and error type situation. So thats what i'm doing, I plan on just learning as I go and making sure everything is legally sound.

This kills me. I have ran into similar accounts with my colleagues over theyears and it is just silly. I am forth coming with information that I think someone needs to be successful because I have faith in myself that I can remain successful with healthy comp. I'm not giving out my secret recipe to KFC original chicken..lol but hoping your comp falls off because of lack of business savvy is desparate in my opinion. Good luck with your venture

If you have funneled a ton of money into your club you must have some idea how to run a club, so why would you allow somebody else to take your club over.
he wants to control the days and make the agreements with other promoters to go thru him so they pay your promoter amd then he pays you. SO why dont you get involved and hire the promoter to work for you and your cut would be much bigger, start now with your in house promo team

I had a promoter come to me and he said he would promote the place and take either the door or 7.5% of the sales. I choose the night or nights and that is it. So it is a win win situation. I don't have to sign any contract or comit to anything other then the night I want them. Perhaps you can make the same deal with your promoter. I personally think he is asking too much but that is your decision. I just wanted to let you know what I found out recently. Good luck
