Hi there. I posted a long time ago about my friend who owned a bar. He basically uprooted his whole life and it was his life long dream to own this bar. Well, I just found out from a mutual friend that he has sold it. My question is my friend has not let me know about it and I am wondering if i should say anything and reach out to him?

I have known him a long time and we used to be romantically involved as well. I can only imagine how devastated he must feel and this as his dream and passion. To have it fail must be really hard.

Hs anyone ever had their bar fail? How did you feel when that happened? Should I wait for him to reach out to me when he is ready to talk about it or should I reach out to him? Thanks for your advice

I have never owned a bar, but I'll bet he's not doing so hot right now? Maybe he knew things were going sour and was relieved to get it off his hands, but I would venture he is still upset about the whole deal. It sounds like he will be, once again, going through a complete lifestyle change. If I were close to him, I'd give him a ring or pay a visit

Smilely,
I'm not much of a "Dear Abby" but, A lot of folks that I know, compare their establishment to a "special needs" child. It's an extension of your body
....some think that if it fails, you fail...and on the other side you have some that got into the bizz sort of half ass, because they thought it was "cool" to have your own bar...they're there for the good times and partying....and not for the "commitment" of being a host or a purveyor of good times for your guests.

Some have compared it to losing a child. Or when things aren't going well that it's like have a kid with a terminal illness....all that depends on how much of your heart is involved...see above...

I have never lost a business...yet...but we have had some pretty lean times...in the last 12+ years and it is tough... and it is like having a sick child...

If it was me...and I was an "old freind"...I'd call his ass up and just ask....
"Hey Bobby, I heard from so and so that you're no longer in the bar..is that right?" Pretty simple...and hey he might think you still care and God only knows where that might lead...ya know? If you wait for him to bring it up, you could be there a while.

Anywho, have fun...and good lick,... that's luck, I don't know who put the "i" key so close to the "u", or maybe.....nah,
Rick

Think nothin' of it, you're welcome in advance.

bahaha that's what I was thinking< Dear abby! priceless:D But most bars fail due to owners lack of knowledge. I have had so many people tell me how they want to open a bar. None have ever had experience and I tell them "don;t!
