Hello. I am opening a small 40 capacity bar and I need a name, quick. Here's the lowdown. We have a full bar with 5 draft beers....DJ music almost every night of the six nights we are open playing funk, soul, downtempo.....our colors are red and copper with some black....our clientele is mid to late 20's......our drinks and food are comparatively cheap to the rest of the neighbor hood....the neighborhood is somewhat trendy.....our food is Italian, warm sandwiches and pastas.
Here's what we're looking for: My partner wants something loungy, I want something that will stick, with lasting power. The owner wants people to know you can eat here, although he does understand that most of our revenue will come from bar sales. He also is leaning towards something Italian sounding.
Here's what we don't want: Silly, trendy names like Lush, Level, Vivid, Quench.
We want to be styley and hip but not cheesy and pretentious. We are having major brain blockage over this. Part of the problem is that my partner and I are women in our late twenties and the owner is in his late 40s - generation gap.
The owner is a Virgo and has offered up "Virgo...Ristorante and Bar" I'm not totally sold. Here's a few randoms we've tossed around....The Lovelite Lounge, The Goodbar, B-Sides, eh, all are pretty silly. Please help us. Someone out there has got to be more creative than us.
Thanks!

j4juicy:
One thing that you have to keep in mind is that what ever name you and the others choose, you will all have to agree on it 100%.
Italian restaurants usually have pretty much the same type or style of names. You said that you are also a dance club! How do you want to be portrayed? As a restaurant or a dance club?
A few names that come to mind are:
Vinnie's Liquid Lounge
"V's" Pasta & Libations
Eat, Drink and Dance
"V's" Ristorante & Martini Lounge (this is my favorite. Martini Bars are really popular today)(our restaurant is called the "Q" cuisine).
I think that you might be a little off on your demo. I would think that a lounge of this size with food would appeal more to an older (25 plus) demo? I've been wrong before, many times.
If you need more help, post the questions here. If you use one of my names, I expect an invitation to your opening party. LOL

I always said that if I ever had a lounge type place, I would call it "The Atrium."
Just like a plant atrium filled with vibrant colors and kind of a peaceful laid back atmosphere.
That or "eat, drink & get the hell out" (just kidding)

LushVanRipp's! Actually, there is a cool rockstar name generator that comes up with some funny and catchy names, which is how I got the LushVanRipp screen name.
Give it a shot: http://www.mp3.com/rockstarname/

A good name might be the location's address, like "54 Main" or "33 Pacific", etc.? Simple and lounge-y, with a laid back feel, plus, non-locals (like me, and I do love Portland when on the left coast) looking to relax a bit while in town (and we do bring lots of expendable $ with us) will easily be able to remember the address to give the cabbies...

One more important thing to think about is that if you go for numbers or names starting with "A" your always listed first in phonebooks and internet sites.
Always nice for promotions since people loose interest if there are 50 restaurants listed somewere. ;)
