I've been goin through some promotions ideas, and the owner came up with a great one, a redneck rampage.
(Insert standard disclaimer re stereotypes and sweet home Alabam)

One of the best thing is it'll be the cheapest to dress up the club for.
OK, so we are going to have a little trouble finding a Bluegrass or Jug band, but a whole bunch of southern rock should see us through.
"Convoy", "Devil went down to Georgia", CCR, Allmans, Doobies, Eagles, Blues Brothers. I'll see it the "O Brother Where art thou" soundtrack has anything upbeat enough...

So far it's :
Jack Daniels, SoCo specials.
Beer (pints?) in preserving jars.
Straw hats on the staff, Jethro & Ellie May outfits.
Barrels/Straw bales around. A 'Deliverence' river kayak?
A few theme c0cktails - Alabama Slammer, Something 'moonshiny'?
I have a neighbour who would boycott the place if we got a confederate flag, but whatever...

Competitions - dunno. I don't think hog-calling will happen.

Anyone got some inspiration?

Y'all write back now, y'hear?

It might be funny to see if anyone has any mechanical bulls over there you could rent for the night.
(Just cover your tail on injury/insurance issues first)

Thanks.
I thought it was out of reach but apparently a friend of a friend actually owns a mech bull! The mind wobbles.
Now we gotta see what it takes to ship 700 Km. :D

Have possibilities to source a cart & barrels from a local drama outfit. Had much fun tracking down bluegrass & rockabilly tunes.
The crowd I've spoken to are much in favour of it all.

Still hog-tied for competitions. Clampett look-alikes are OK, but will limit themselves to a handfull of into-it folk.
... Best Country Jig, Best accent?

... thinking.

Check with your Liquor Reps for prizes.

Here's some suggestions for contests.

* Tying a bow on a Ewe

* Meadow Muffin (dried cow poop) toss. For distance, accuracy, and style

* Rent temporary corral panels. Make a large enough square to house a Cow. Maybe 20' x 20'. Section off the ground in two foot squares using string that is secured to the ground. Randomly number each square. Have people place bets on which square that they think the Cow will crap on first. Great money maker. Give half of the total monies collected to the winner and the other half to a charity. Good publicity

* Ropin'. Make a steer out of a bale of straw and fake steer head. Give people one chance to rope it

Get enough pairs of those Billy Bob teef (teeth) for all of your employees.

I hope that this helps.

how bout a contest where the people get blindfolded and see how long it takes to figure out its their cousin they are kissing?

first prize to anyone that actually stops once the blindfold is taken off and the secret is revealed.

honorable mention goes to any fine young filly that puts her false teeth in her overalls pocket before playing.

yippy kay yo kay yay.... you know the rest

Hm,
Some of the local schools do the "Cow Bingo" now each year and it's turned out to be really unexciting. Was a good novelty in its time.
I don't think there will be livestock involved however.
And the space (among other things) is ill-suited to throwing shit around. The local version is the Gumboot toss, but that's too locally rural for us in New Zealand - I'm aiming at cliche Americana this time. The sheep/cow ****ie night will have to wait for another occasion. We have a couple of breweries that already do this theme with "Southern Man" competitions, Dray horses, Mustering & Shearing events.

Anyway, I think I've got some good stuff to go on so far, but I feel I've missed a couple of points - niggling thoughts - wish I knew what it was.
What says 'hillbilly' all over?
Floppy hats, Buck teeth inbreds, chequered shirts, Moonshine in jam jars, livestock, straw in the teeth, banjos, jug bands, ...
OK, maybe that is enough after all.
