If you had to "Do it all over again" what mistake/ or mistakes would you have avoided or what would you have done differently in opening your business?

Hi Ty, have you been to the nightclub Spybar recently? What did you think about the sound system there? I would like to ask you a few questions about your future venture in Chi town. Call me at (859) 433-7479 and ask for Willis

I agree with all the posts and would insure that everyone was incorporated firsthand.
My philospohy is that " No one person(s) is bigger than the bigger picutre"

i.e. Hotshot well known bartender, DJ or chef. Pass them by! No one is bigger than business. Once you let hillbilly hollywoods think they are the cornerstone of your house you will soon be homeless. Build your business on solid fundamentals based on essential business related services and products ( and a hot staff ).

Be known for substance and not suspects. It is the end of another night for me and I am tired and a bit hammered. FYI I have worked everyday for the last 16 months ( every day! ) and I am almost ready to share this ordeal with the forum. I am the builder, concept person, manager, promoter, and house rat. In the mean time I would additionally ad to the points fore mentioned that you decide early on if you are ready to suffer/ i suffer! mentally, physically, spiritually, emotionally, financially and personally to see this through to the end concept/goal. If not it may be better to just be the patron than the pig..

best of luck to you all

Where the hell do ya start.... Probably the biggest, was the night we called the Fire Dept. .....We should of had a couple of beers and thought about it for a while... HASTE, is not always a good thing. Or there was the day I lost my keys... then called the locksmith to re key the locks...one needs to think these thing out. Or the night that Susan threw a fit and walked out.... then I rehired her the next day. Nice butt??? maybe... And I could go on and on.

The biggest, is definitely have more beginning capitol. You can do it on a shoestring, but it's not fair to anybody, especially your own sanity.

Geeze, thanks for asking the question.

Have a great weekend,
Rick

so true Bruce, I actually worked on buying a bar a couple of times but for whatever reason the deal would fall thru. Knowing what I know now it was a good thing it did fall thru cause it would have been a trainwreck. I would have been your average good time charlie bar owner "drinks on me" and would have been out of business very fast. As they say everything happens for a reason.

I made half hearted attempts early in life also, but never really pushed too hard. It was easier to keep moving on and not put my all into any one thing. I think I have done well in life to this point, but know I might have done better. I have a wonderful wife/partner, 8 kids and stepkids with typical family woes[lazy buggers] and 20 plus grandchildren. Just wish I had saved more sometimes so that I could spend it now. You thought I was going to say 'give it to the kids' didn't you? Every time someone comes on here and asks what we think about them taking on a place that is closed for some reason or another, I shudder to think what they aren't seeing headed their way. But this is a good business if you keep your head on straight. I recently took a couple days off completely away from the business and let my wife carry the load while I was floor bound with a bad back problem. Tomorrow will be three weeks and I am not quite off the crutches entirely. Sure give me something to think about, and allowed me time to consider where I am going and where I have been. I think it is a lot cooler here.:):)
