View Full Version : Staff handbook
Thought this may be useful to someone.
It's issued to all new staff, and hopefully covers everything, and is probably full of grammar mistakes. I've just finished it!
Would be interested in your comments, and suggestions.

This is a great template to start with however there is also a large section that is too often ignored and that is the mandatory arbitration requirement.
We recently published a post that may shed some basic light on the subject. Generally people ignore this matter until they are served papers and its too late. With the availability of commission or no-fee lawyers preperation and pro active steps is the most beneficial form of insurance.

For companies intending to implement an arbitration policy, there are many steps to take prior to an actual arbitration. These range from peer reviews to an ‘open door policy’ where employers and employees can negotiate without an arbitrator present. Whatever a company chooses to do, of primary importance is ensuring the policy is clearly defined and understood, with the intention always being to resolve the issue prior to arbitration but knowing that arbitration itself is a practical and cost effective alternative to entering the court room.

Looks like you put a lot of work into this. Congrats on
getting it done. A couple questions:
What kind of establishment do you have?
You mention no drug use on duty--what about drinking
on duty?
What about your alcohol management policies, and
employee's role in carrying out those policies? Are
they in a separate document?

you should not allow anyone to drink while working. besides ending up sloppy drunk you increase your liability and i doubt your insurance will cover you in a pinch.
