I still consider myself a 'newbie' here, but to me anyway, this seems like a mistake on the part of a rival bar of mine, but wondering if they may be onto something I'm not???
Anyway, I took over a trashy but very profitable town/skank/college bar/club. I've been working my ass off to make the place better, slowly, bit by bit. Patio added, new paint, new artwork, new pool tables, new DJ equip, new lighting, all over about 2 years, more to come I'm sure, just giving you a brief rundown... still a lot of work to go. Anyway, I've been fighting this 'trashy' rep since I took over. Not quite ready to turn the corner, but w/in another year or 2 I think I will be.
There is 1 other bar in town that I would consider competition for my clientel, that being a 'dance club'. They are not as trashy (rep wise anyway) and from what I gather amongst my distributors, they do comparable business... probably a little better actually. Now, it's been brought to my attention they put stripper poles on their dance floor. This is something I've contemplated in the past, but I feel it would add to our 'trashy' image (despite the fact I have no problem doing wet t-shirt contests, lol). I have support beams that run down the middle, 2 are very near/on the dance floor. Often people WILL use them as 'stripper poles' for that style dancing, but they're not true 'poles' as more just beams. I think this 'cleaner' bar is making a big mistake by intentionally going after a trashier atmosphere. Maybe they don't see it that way? Maybe they keep the 'clean' clientel and they just get a little more risque/have a little more fun. I guess I'm wondering if this is a fad (the poles) or if I need to do this to compete, etc, etc... in all reality my personal opinion is they're making a mistake. What's your views?
